An enjoyable analysis of a long-debated and highly controversial subject in the world of Transformers. I would like to toss in the unmentioned possibility concerning "female" Transformers though. Seeing as the Quintessons formerly enslaved the race for mass-production and marketing, is it not possible this is when feminine TFs were introduced/created to/in the population? The earliest female mentioned ever is Beta and her time was during the final days of the Occupation. Would it not be profitable to create form female-like programming, woman-like chassis, and the like as some buyers of the "hardware" may be interested in such designs?

Why are there female Transformers? One theory that I've heard of is that the Transformers may have originally been organic in origin, with two genders, as suggested by The Beast Machines series. Perhaps some disaster struck, and life on Cybertron was changed forever. In order to adapt to the change, they became a robotic race-probably transfering their personalities or maybe their brains- into new metallic bodies. Old habits die hard-so of course they're going to built *male* bodies and *female* bodies! But if the Transformers are truely a totally *genderless* race, why would we even use pronouns? Shouldn't we be refering to them as *it* and not *he* or *she*?

"Why do female transformers exist?" is a question that I've had for a long time. I definately agree with the points you've made, especially the part about Transformers being unable to reproduce, therefore females defeat the purpose. However, when it comes to companionship, I still don't see why females have to be made. Since Transformers are genderless (in my opinion, since they can't reproduce, they are genderless) then there is no such thing as homosexuality. Therefore, they should be able to find love with each other without having to create females simply for that purpose. Of course, at the same time, Transformers may not understand the concept of romance and, seeing male and female human couples, may believe that "romance" could only apply to transformers of opposite gender. Also, unless I am mistaken, aren't all of the females Autobots? (except for Nightbird, but she was created by a human) If so, that strengthens your hypothesis as well as mine. Since Aubots are more associated with humans, they would be more likely to adopt their beliefs and customs. Decepticons probably have no females because they have not been influenced by the organic species (humans as well as animals), and don't connect love with reproduction. Hmm, I am inspired now. Your essay was very good, and made some very good points! =)
