As with the past few years, the seasonal merchandising blitz means that we’re looking at a batch of Valentine’s cards based on the live-action movie series. And this time around, folks, they’re actually worth buying. $2.50 US nets you a set of 32 foil cards (besting the “lenticular” set) with 35 stickers (besting the Energon pack).

The artwork used on the cards is pretty well stock, and in fact I recognize several of them from elsewhere. Of the 32, you have two large cards, one depicting Megatron and another with the twins. The other 30 represent 3 each of 10 smaller cards: two with Optimus, two with Bumblebee, another Megatron, an Ironhide, a Starscream, and a Ratchet.

As far as the cards themselves go, I’m actually having to admit that the writing on them is better than on previous years’ cards. Not only are they closer in nature to what one would expect from Valentine’s cards, you actually have a few puns thrown in here and there. I hate to say it, but the writing on these is better than some individual episodes of the original cartoon series.

If you’ve got the money to blow, go ahead and get them. Rating: 10 / 10.
