Ark, Autobot HQ:
“Optimus, why do you always give Megatron and the other Decepticons second chances? Why don’t you and the Autobots blow them up?”
Optimus regarded the young impulsive Hotrod who had asked and his friends, Arcee, Springer, and Daniel. The four youngsters stared up at him quizzically. Also in the room were Ironhide, Kup, Prowl, Bumblebee, and Tracks.
“Because we aren’t killers Hotrod, we are Autobots. It is what we do.”
“Don’t give me that!” Hotrod said impulsively. “What’s the *real* reason, Prime? I mean, sometimes when you’re in battle with Megatron and he’s done some terrible act, why don’t you ever pull the trigger? Just end it all? You’ve had so many chances before!”
“Enough lad!” Kup barked and whacked him upside the head.
“Ow!”
The room had gone deadly silent; the youngsters realized and looked around. All their elders had some saddened look in their optics. Hotrod wondered if it was something he had said. Had he stirred up some old memory?
Suddenly Ironhide who slammed his fist against Teletran-1 in frustration broke the silence. “I can’t take it anymore Prime!” He suddenly cried out. “For over nine million years we’ve kept it secret! We’ve gone so far as to erase ever record of their existence! I think its time we told them the truth or so help me I will!”
There was a silent mummer of agreement, apparently the elders all had some secret, the younger generation leaned forward eagerly, wondering what Ironhide’s outburst was all about.
Prime sighed. “Your right, Ironhide. It was wrong of us to give up looking for them but it was even worse for us to erase all records of his existence and the incident he was involved in. However I shall tell them.”
”Are you sure?” Asked Tracks. “I’d me more than glad too.”
“I’m sure.” The big red and blue Autobot turned to the youngsters again and asked, “Have you ever heard of Chaos?” Judging from the blank stares he received he noted they had no clue. Arcee asked in her sweet voice, “Who or what is Chaos?”
“Chaos Tron was the first pacifist Decepticon.”
“A peace loving Decepticon?” The youngsters shouted in surprise. “Your kidding us right, Optimus?” Inquired Hotrod.
“No. Chaos Tron was created to be a powerful Decepticon capable of destroying many Autobots however something went wrong. He still maintained his Anti-Matter Shockwave and other skills but he sought peace, solitude, and to further advance his knowledge.”
“What’s ironic,” Tracks suddenly added and laughed, “was that Chaos Tron was created by Megatron to be a younger version of himself because he believed only he could get the job done!” The elders in the room chuckled at this, especially upon seeing the shocked, slack jawed, wide-optic faces of the younger group.
Hotrod could hardly believe his audios. “M-Megatron’s creation?”
There was a gleam in Prime’s optics. “Yes, Megatron created him. Megatron created the first pacifist Decepticon with supernatural powers.”
“Supernatural?”
“Chaos had abilities that he was not programmed with to summon up metal out of thin air and see into the future. He claimed that if he was to kill anyone these powers would go away and believing Megatron and the other Decepticons would kill him because of what he truly was he faked his death and fed to us. We sheltered him for over a Cybertronian year gaining future knowledge of battles yet to come and temporarily gaining the upper hand. He also gave us advice, showing us wisdom far beyond his years.”
“What happened after that year?” Daniel asked. “Did he go away?”
There was a silence among the Autobots for what seemed an eternity. At long last Optimus replied solemnly, “Yes Daniel, Chaos went away, never to be seen again by either Autobot or Decepticon.”
“You mean he died! How? I thought he could see into the future!”
”He could Hotrod,” Optimus relied dark-eyed. He turned away from them to check something on Teletran-1, “he saw his own death.
“What’s horrible is he only lived one and a half Cybertronian years.”
The command room grew heavy again in the silence that befell them. It was broken only by Optimus he said softly, “He told me the day before he died that Decepticons were simply misled by their own foolish pride. That is why we do not kill them outright, Hotrod. That is why we give them second chances because perhaps – like Chaos, they may one day see the light.”
